I think your site is awesome.... Owning as close to a Mclaren M6B at least for now...it being a Stage III Manta Montage with a McLaren 3.1 lier intercooled turbo motor, I can at least dream. I do however own a set of Group 7, McLaren M8, magnesium racing/road rims... they are 15"x14" rears and 15"x8" fronts and they are four bolt pattern. See them here at www.IamCarCrazy.com/rims.htm

My (private) collection of Mclaren is quite large, from jackets, to autographed pictures, someone some day will inherit them all in my family....

I spent the weekend (July 13-17, 2006) at the Can-Am memorial races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, USA. I live only a mile or two from the track and was there to photograph the event for the local paper. While there, I had the good fortune to find some shade (it was VERY hot) near some New Zealanders who had traveled all the way to my backyard just for this race. Among them was Bruce McLaren's daughter, Amanda. What a hoot. I grew up with McLaren autos and meeting her was a highlight of the weekend. I also made friends with another gentleman from the group and I will be sending him a photo CD of the Can-Am races. I surely hopes he likes the results. Anyway, that meeting precipitated my visit to your site to learn a bit more about "The Man." Your site is exceptionally well organized and it was easy to find the information I was looking for.

I just discovered your website. I must say it brought back memories of my teenage years when all I wanted was to get close to the CanAm. And close I did. Back when a kid could wander into the farmhouse garages at Elkhart Lake, there I was face to face with Bruce working to adjust his car for the next test session. Apparently they were bleeding brakes and he asked me to jump in the cockpit and pump the brake pedal. Since that time I have had many racing adventures but none memorable as that.

What a privilege to view the website and sign this guest book. I followed Bruce Mclaren (no 47) as a boy and now as sales manager of the Western Leader I would like to keep in touch to see if we could run a story to tie in with a significant event in Bruce's life. Kind regards Ken Eagle

I was 14 when I heard about Mr Bruce McLaren's death and I recall being devestated. At 50 now, I still feel a sense of sadness at his passing. He was an extraordinary person and a huge tribute to him must be that there are so many people like myself who would have loved to have met him and shared a friendship.

I never had the privelege of meeting Bruce McLaren personally, but he was someone I always admired for his commitment to Motor Racing. His driving skills, his engineering abilities and acheivements. I was so saddened when his life was taken through that accident. There are many things that happen in this life and we don't have the reasons and answers as to "why" they happened. It is wonerful to see how Bruce's team has developed and how successfulit has become. It was great to see one of his restored racing sport cars at the recent V8 Internatinal Race at Pukekohoe. - Phil Martin.

Hi, As a 14 year old, I can remember watching Bruce drive the Lycoming special at the '54 Lady Wigram. My older brother and family could hardly wait for each year to roll by to get to the race. This has brought back many memories. Cheers, Monte Pollard.

The first time I saw Bruce was in 1967 at the wheel of an M6A coming hard into Canada Corner at Road America. I was ten. I'll never forget the sight of that orange car or the sound it made, reverberating off the trees that used to line the flat-out Kettle Moraine Sweep. It was frighteningly fast and brilliant to look at. No one designed and drove cars like Bruce McLaren. In 1969, after Bruce won the Road America race, I saw him alone in the paddock and ran up, winded, to ask him for his autograph. "Did you run all the way here?", he said with a huge, laughing smile. We talked for less than a minute, but I'll never forget that moment. Almost forty years later, I still have his autograph. Bruce McLaren will always be my hero.

I started following Team McLaren in 1969 when the "Bruce and Denny Show" was steamrolling the Can-Am Series. Although I never had the chance to meet Bruce I was greatly influenced by him and feel in some way he contributed to my engineering career choice. When he died in the Goodwood testing accident I felt that I had lost a dear friend. My best wishes for your continued success in preserving the legacy of a great man. Sincerely, Rich Sutorius

Always an admirer of Bruce and his efforts, I met him in Auckland when he was there with the BRMs for the Tasman Series. I still have his autograph. Later, I came to know Mum and Pop, and keep with pride the steering wheel centre Pop gave me out of Bruce's M6GT and the McLaren Racing sticker. Mum and Pop McLaren lent us Bruce's Lady Wigram Trophy for a display we held at the Motor Show in Auckland. The website is a fine tribute, thank you. Stewart Garmey, Melbourne, Australia.

Unfortunately I came to motor racing a bit late, although born in the forties. However, I was early enough to be completely caught up by the Can-Am series and 'The Bruce & Denny Show' My friends and I would wait avidly for Pete Lyons' race reports in Motoring News, we were just gutted by the fact that we never got to see races on TV. TV was then, as now, almost completely dominated by F1, although at least it was more interesting and entertaining in those days. We were absolutely stunned on that day in 1970 when someone came into my laboratory to say that Bruce had been killed. It was just like the day we heard of the death of Jim Clark; we all though that if it could happen to people like this there was no hope for the others! Very sad days those, but I suppose they died doing something they enjoyed, just a pity they couldn't have done it for a lot longer.

Bruce was my idol when I was a teenager. Until now I have him as one of the most complete racing drivers ever, being also a bright constructor and a great human being. If not for him Ford GT 40 program would end in nothing. And his orange Can Am cars where some of the most beautiful racers I ever saw in my life. The shape of a M 8A worths, for me, what a great picture or a great sculpture should worth. A kind of Michelangelo's Moses on Wheels. Dalmo, Brazil

As a National Competition License Holder(SCCA)and the owner of "Mark 1 Racing", I have been involved in Motorsports and Racing since 1958, and have actively driven since 1970. In 1983 I switched to Vintage Racing, Production, Sports Racing, Closed Wheel and Formula (Open Wheel). I recently purchased a 1969 McLaren M10A Formula 5000 (VIN #300-09) and we are refurbishing the car for the 2006 Season. I am certain that we will need NOS or Reproduction Parts and I would greatly appreciate references to any supply that may be available. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. The History of Bruce McLaren and McLaren Cars is truly amazing!

I well remember the day I heard about Bruce's testing accident and death. I was shaken and heartbroken, because I admired Bruce so much. I saw him in the '68 and '69 CanAm races at Road America. The cars were the M8A and M8B(the most successful CanAm car in history hands down, winning all eleven races in 1969). I was so impressed by his genius at building a dynastic team that I tended to dismiss his ability behind the wheel. I have refined my view over the years as I have realized that this guy was terribly fast, and very competitive. It still amazes me that he accomplished as much as he did in such a tragically short life. Thanks for the site.

Spent a most memorable hour or so; studying your Web Site reminiscing on those wonderful days when Bruce was still with us. Oh what wonderful times those were watching those classic races. I pen this wee missive with a lump in my throat and a tear in my eyes. Oh that we could turn back the clock. The likes of Bruce we shall never see again of Bruce. He was an inspiration to me then and still is all these years later. Am quite sure that he would not like the direction that his beloved sport and passion has gone. Thank you for making this little retrospective interlude in an otherwise boring day possible. and for the effort in putting together you Site. Most Respectfully Submitted Thomas H. He raced in a simpler time when the desire to win, driving in any week in any type of car, had precedence over most other things associated with the sport. A shame we lost that ethos back in the 70's when Chapman decided that money was the only reason for racing. I never saw Bruce race but every book I read about racing in the 60's has him as a straightforward character who was only interested in building and racing cars and paying for it all by selling cars to whoever would buy them. I wish there were his types still around now. It might make F1 worth watching.

I met Bruce McLaren in 1967. He drove a Ford MK IV at Le Mans with Mark Donohue. I was a mechanic for Shelby American. We had built two of the four MK IV's that participated in the race that year. I was one of the mechanics on the sister car, driven by A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney who did win the 24 hours event. Bruce was highly respected by every mechanics and engineers at Shelby American. In 1969 I worked for Al Bartz and was again associated with Bruce and Denny Hulme with their Can Am program, Bruce was sharing an engine shop in Van Nuys with Al. Those were fabulous years and I was so lucky as a young kid to have been associated with all those incredibly talented people. What a first class act it was. I just wrote a book about the great memories they left us. Phil Henny check my web: www.justcallmecarroll.com

Please add this to your guest book. This was the content of an E-Mail I sent to my friend Lee Bowerman who shares my passion with our sport, when I was so motivated by a pic of Bruce's Mk-8B: This was Brucies personal car. Imagine a cool spring morning, a bit of dew on the roof and slight fog in the gulleys and you don your goggles (no helmet) drivers suit and gloves. Electrical is turned on. Your dry sump buzzes fuel pump sounds a report. Push the hot button and the response is more sensual than audible. Your lower torso shakes and your heart rate lowers as the machine that you now wear like a glove has only surprises with physics.

I know this sounds a little over the top but this covers what I feel when I see an art form such as this. The fact that I saw this car when it was new in Bruce's hands and I can hear his voice in my memory now, when on a warm Friday morning, June 5th of 1964 as he alighted from his then record setting prior personal car, a Cooper Oldsmobile to his East facing spot on level 2 in Mosport's pits. To greet Bruce on this morning was a short by physical stature and giant in every other way, Jim Clark. Bruce pulled up his goggles to confer with Jim who was attired in a white Egyptian cotton creaseless shirt and Black dress pants with a crease in the front and rear that could cut wood. Jim's tie was a shortish wool tartan. This image seemed to me at the time as the pinnacle of post war gentlemen plying their trade in a fleeting world but would have been as at home in the cock pit of a Hurricane or Spit.

Kindest regards,

Paul Matthews

It was the CAN-AM series and seeing the McLaren's at Mosport that generated my life-long passion for motorsports. That period (late 60's, early 70's) is a long lost era which will never be re-created. How bad I feel for the younger fans of today who will never know the thrill of seeing and hearing those cars. This was also an era in which fans had unlimited access to the paddock area to meet and greet the stars like Bruce and Denny.

Competing with Harry, Greg, Mark in there Mathews Collection entries and three other Can-Am entrants was a dream come true. I would like to know if it possible to purchase McLaren patch that I could sew on my driver uniform. It is not possible for me to describe the profound experience derived from having now driven a Can-Am entry. Hi People! I had a race of sorts with Bruce way back in the 50s when we were teenagers! We were not friends at all, I simply knew him from visiting his home with his mum's weekly laundry!

I eventually came to drive a Leyland Comet semi-trailer hauling Small Goods on country runs when I was 18 years old. On one of my trips I encountered Bruce driving his mum's Morris Minor (if my memory serves me correctly) he was behind me and we travelled for many a country mile without him being able to pass me...teenagers know no fear when it comes to driving!

He eventually got past and I never saw him again. But I did follow his racing career. He and Denny Hulme were two of a kind, embodying all the wonderful 'laid back' individuality inherent in the New Zealand character. While they raced in the Can Am series, I never missed Henry Manney's race discriptions in Road & Track! The 60s and 70s were the Golden Age of motor racing for me and Bruce and Denny were my heroes!

I met Bruce McLaren several times at Mosport Park, Ontario and Watkins Glen, New York during the Can-Am heyday during the late 1960s. The Orange McLaren Can-Am cars were the class of the field until Porche arrived with their huge turbocharged engines producing close to 1,100 hp.

I also watched him race F1 when The Canadian GP was run at Mosport and the US GP at the Glen.

My father organised the building and adaption of a M10B McLaren Chevrolet to compete in Hillclimbs in 1969 and it was the first sponsord hillclimb car being adorned by Ski McLaren logos. The car was launched in a hotel in London. Does anybody have any photos of this occasion especially in colour. I would be very interested to hear. Bruce was a friend of my fathers and was present at the launch.

Thanks

Great Site about the (2nd) Greatest American Road Racing Series (the Original TransAm as rivalling the CanAm for the greatest road racing series). In any event, no show comes close to CanAm (maybe F1 w/ J. Stewart and J. Clark) But!? Why the obvious deletion of Peter Revson in your web-site? It was not only the Bruce and Denny Show, but Peter had a role and died for it. Why the deletion of his participation? As for my Qualifications to ask this question, my father was a SCCA/BP champion in the 60s and IMSA Competitor in the 70s. I've been trained by Bruce McGinnis (former CanAm Driver) and finished 2nd to Wayne Taylor in the innaugural 24hour Kart racing event in the North American Continent.

Is there some legality limiting you to Peter's inclusion in this web-site. Bruce and Denny were absolute heroes of mine, but I find it disturbing that maybe a novice to this type of racing and history may be denied all of the information.

As a side note, it is your site, and I acknowledge that, but I was just curious.

I am a second cousin to Bruce living in Australia. Unfortunately Bruce died five years before I was born but being a McLaren has meant that I have always been aware and pround of Bruce's achievements.

A big hello to all my relatives out there!

I remember seeing Bruce and getting his autograph in the paddock at 1967 British Grand Prix when he was driving one of Dan Gurney's Eagles. This was while he was waiting for the M5A to be ready. He seemed a nice polite guy to me as young fan.

What ever happened to the 1st F1 Mclaren the M2.

I enjoyed watching Can-Am races on TV in the late 60's and early 70's. I bought the hardback book CAN-AM written by Pete Lyons a couple years ago, and still enjoy re-reading it. More than anything, I enjoy going to vintage races. Nothing sounds like the cars of yesteryear!

I remember seeing him and Denny at Kyalami (SA) in 1969 - the year that Stewart won his first Championship. I was a lad of 18 at the time but was impressed how approachable Bruce was. I have wondered for years why Bruce decided to test the Can-Am car at Goodwood that fateful day - 2 June 1970. Perhaps you can let me know: [email protected]

I am so glad that a Bruce McLaren Supporters Club has been formed to keep in remembrance once of our great formula one driver and designer. I was so sorry that his life was taken at such a young age. I will always treasure those moments Bruce took to give me an autograph and also to send me a letter and a photo of one of those early Cooper Climax's he use to race. I still remember the day when I heard that sad news of his fatal accident come over the radio. I won't forget Bruce as our birthdays were on the same day. Thanks for the happy memories and I look forward to reading the new book George Begg has written. By for now and may the new McLaren formula one cars get back winning races again. Yours sincerely, Phil Martin.

I am interested in the Mercedes Benz 300SEL that Bruce McLaren had .It is reported to be in NEW Zealand and was shipped in with a container load of spare parts. AMG, the German tuning company had a McLaren race car with a 6.3 engine fitted, this caused much financial hardship for AMG, was the Car and Container payment from AMG. Cheers Ron Bunting.

When drivers were drivers. McLaren drove F1, Can Am, LeMans, Tasman Series, etc. Today's drivers will never have that experience to prove that they are not just the best in F1 but the best in the world. Most probably don't have a big end of year blow out party for all the drivers like Bruce did. Great personality.

I like your website very much as it shows the cars off very well, and true, I believe, the way Bruce mclaren would like to have them seen and used today. I myself would like to visit the collection in person some day if you don't mind. Presently, I have two cars I'm restoring, a Bolwell Mk7, and Turbos-Ford which is a sports racing car similar to a M6A/M8D. I realy like the idea of a viewable collection of cars, as a friend of mine once built up a similar collection in Launceston, Tasmania (in general) with cars pre-war (he liked Blower Bently's especially) and post war (Jack Brabhams F1 wining car) sporting and race cars, you could even go into the workshop amonst the cars in restoration. What he would eventually have was a cafe in amongst the cars (fenced off). regards Paul Stuart

It is sad that with the proliferation of satellite television and the narrowly focused channels that no old CanAm footage is being shown. I would suggest a crusade to right this wrong. Apparently the Speed Channel that shows the F-1 races here in the States has access to some great footage, but doesnt feel there is enough interest in the series to show it! Prove that they are wrong by telling them I WANT MY CANAM at [email protected]. We can promote the great history of Mr. McLaren and his machines by letting the world see them for the first time!

I had always liked Bruce and his cars. I was at the 1967 Road America Can Am race and became an ardent fan. I walked up to the Hurry Downs area and saw Bruce come around Turn 6 and could see with the naked eye that he was going faster than any cars I'd seen before. The Can Am and the McLarens were probably the greatest road racing ever.

I am very thrilled to find the most deserving recognition of the New Zealand world famous racing car driver on your web site, and elsewhere on the internet. I've two reasons for having a special interest in Bruce McLaren. One, I lived not far from the McLaren family, and remember Bruce running around the roads, up near Bastion Point when I was a young boy, and secondly, my wife and I work at the Wilson Home, where we recently discovered an old (prone position) mobility chair,(like a large, extended pram/trolley) still in use today, which has a very small metallic, Bruce McLaren racing car, Kiwi shield attached. No one knows at the Wilson its history. We can only presume that the chair was used by Bruce, and that at a later date, he or a member of his family returned and applied the shield. We would be interested to know anything about the foresaid. Many thanks and kind regards, Colin and Anne Andrews.

I was fortunate enough to obtain Bruce McLaren's autograph (as well as Dennis Hulme's and Chris Amon's) after the October 1969 Can-Am race at Laguna Seca. What a highlight after they thoroughly domimated that race and the season for that matter. Little did I know that it would be the last Can-Am race Bruce would ever drive. I remembering hearing about his death before the 1970 season in a testing accident. It has amazed me how McLaren's legacy in racing has continued and is still going strong. I'm impressed.

Your tribute to Bruce NcLaren is great. I was the SCCA corner worker collected by Bruce at the LA Times Gran Prix on Oct. 29, 1969. I spent 8 months in hospital and stayed in contact with Bruce, Denny and Teddy Mayer and will never forget all they did for me while i was laid up. Bruce was killed the very month I was released from Riverside Comm. Hospital and I was greatly saddened, however, I kept in contact with Denny for several years. Teddy had arreanged for Indy 500 tickets for me for the 70 Indy 500 but, unfortuenately, I was still in hospital..Darn it!! One might say I had intimate contact with the M8B although the M8B came out of the ordeal a wee bit better than I...I still love those cars. Anyway thanks for your site...take care.

At this moment I am very busy to sort out all my Mclaren information, which I have collected from the early start of the Can Am series. A great site to honor a great man. Brings back alot of memories for me I was a big time Can Am fan. I lived very near Bridgehampton Race Track and worked at the Gulf Gas Station that McLaren Cars stayed at during the races in 1968 and after. My boss at the time told me Bruce had offered to take anybody for a ride that worked in the station in his Can Am car and my boss couldn't find me.(I was at the track) I was so mad to have missed this opportunity! Like a couple of the contributors here I too met Bruce and Denny, at the Colnbrook site in 1967. As an 11 year old I wrote to the company and received a letter of invitation to visit and see the cars being assembled. My brother and I cycled there from Langley and were gobsmacked to be introduced to these great men. I can still see Bruce limping across the workshop floor to say hallo (I can't remember why he had one leg shorter than the other) and sign photos of him driving the M7A at Brands Hatch. Denny then appeared and did the same. We also got the sticky back badges that you see on the top of the page. I wish I knew what I did with them now. I remember being unable to think of anything intelligent to say to them, I was so much in awe. The workshop wasn't very big but it had two M7As and a couple of CanAms, which were probably M6s as I don't recall any wings. Anyway, it was a pleasant surprise to discover that a website exists as a tribute to a great man. Keep it up.

I have been a fan of Bruce and Denny since the great Can-Am days. Sadly, I never saw him race, nor have I ever seen one of the great cars for real. But such was my passion for all things McLaren that I rode to the Colnbrook factory and stood on my motorbike seat to peer through the window. I couldn't see a thing. When the USAC cars came to the UK, I took my bike to Brands Hatch to see which McLaren chassis would turn up. By then, McLaren were fading in the USA. My next adventure was to ride down to Goodwood on a Sunday afternoon. Someone from the flying club turned a blind eye as I rode around the entire track until I came to the tragic spot. It was eerie to see the place where such a great life ended. Since then I've been working in Woking and I've watched the new team grow, from the cramped site on the bend in Boundary Road, to Devonshire Road, to the new Paragon site. Somehow, those magical M8s still seem bigger than anything to carry the McLaren name since, although you have to appreciate the way that Ron Dennis and others have lifted the name to glory. Anyone know what Teddy Mayer does now? Best wishes to McLaren fans everywhere and to the Trust.

I think your website is great and a fine tribute to Bruce and his team. I would like to see it updated. I still look for anything to do with his team and his life. I was lucky to see Bruce and Denny in 1969 at the Bridgehampton Can-Am. I wrote a fan letter to Colnbrook in 1970 or 1971 and requested a team patch like the one Bruce wore on his overalls. Not only did I get a reply but the envelope contained the patch and decals and autographed pictures of Denny and Peter Revson. One of the best days of my life so far. Many thanks to Bruce,s staff and to Mr. Phil Kerr. I still have the patch. Many thanks and best regards to Mrs. Mclaren and Amanda.

I was a fan of McLaren racing and of the Can-Am racing series when I was in Jr. High in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. My science teacher in ninth grade was Mr. Brian McLaren, a cousin of Bruce's and we would talk about the racing series and Bruce a lot. The last time Bruce drove at Lime Rock in Connecticut Brian went to the race and brought me back some autographed magazines and photos. They were later stolen with my magazine, comic book and baseball card collections but I will always have the memories of one of the greatest men to ever sit in a race car on any track anywhere. Thank you, Charles Stackpole.

I'm a long time fan of Bruce's and the great orange elephants. Used to see him and Denny at Road America in Elkart Lake Wisconsin. Some of the best times of my life. Great site - thanks for keeping the memory alive!

I haerd through the exotic car grapevine that MClaren is designing a new car, the "F 2". Is this true??? I met a guy in San Francisco when I was living there named Don Mclaren, How is he? does he hae an email address I could send him a letter to?? from Celeste Generaux in Sandpoint, Idaho. PS, the F-1 is beautiful, If only I had an extra Million for another car!

Thank you Celeste Generaux (208) 255-1082

I've been a fan of Bruce McLaren since the 1963 Times Grand Prix at Riverside California, where he showed up with his new McLaren-Elva/Olds and set a new official lap record for the course as I held a watch (I was there spectating instead of helping with Official Timing, as my folks had just quit doing the Timing for virtually all Road race events in Southern California). I had been aware of him before, but had not seen his work up close. I was very much saddened when he passed on, but am still a fan of his driving team management, and car creation skills. I am out of time right now, but will be back to check out this site soon. Richard Parcells

More than anything else, the M8 series big block can am cars shook my absolute soul. The reynolds aluminum 502 chevys with the lucas fuel injection had a sound that was unique and most powerful, most animal, most agressive and awe inspiring. Listening to those engines warm up in the Garage at Riverside or in the valley at Laguna Seca was pure ecstacy. Inspite of my fondness for the Porsche 917, the M8 series really had my heart and soul. I grew up in Buckinghamshire near Silverstone and often saw Bruce race there in the early 1960's when I was a child. I later (in the late sixties) moved with my family to Toronto, Canada and saw Bruce again this time racing his cars at Mosport in the Can Am series. His cars were always immaculate and went as well as they looked. I now live in Southern California and see the cars that Bruce built and raced now competing in vintage events at Laguna Seca, the sight and sound of them bring back many good memories of a much loved era in racing.

I remember seeing the quote (which appears above Bruce McLaren's signature on the Home Page) in the NY Times immediately following his tragic and untimely death. He and I are less than 2 years apart in age. I cannot recall who wrote the obit from which the quote is lifted. Was it Red Smith?? I fondly remember the thundering, earth-shaking engines and exciting performance of the CanAm cars. THANKS for this wonderful website.

I, a great lady supporter of motorsport of all kinds, have had the privelege of sitting in a Mclaren M8F, now owned by a racing driver friend, Peter Hoffmann in Germany... what amazing experiences we have had watching him + this great car! Now that's real sound + real power - my entire body is still trembling from standing behind the exhausts as the car was started up!

What a great site! I have lots of media to share, how can I get files to your great site? Also I have spec for the M8A that you might find interesting. ENGINE 8.1 litre V-8 (Reynolds aluminum engines for works cars) 740 b.h.p. HP @ 6400 r.p.m. I have loads of pics from the MID-OHIO Can Am races. And some really nice shots of Denny in the car on the paddock. Your site needs to have these.

One of my very first racing heroes was Denny Hulme (Bruce was killed when I was very young), as the Can Am faded, these glory days became ancient history. The days of Can Am, the rivalries, the great guys who raced these monster cars that would scare the dung out of most modern PRO drivers, never again will the world see a series like Can-Am, or constructors like McLaren, and that is sad indeed.

It's good to see that me and mine aren't the only ones who remember real racers, and real race cars.

Bruce McLaren will never be forgotten. I like, Bruce was born in Auckland. I saw him race in the Tasman series. He is also at rest in the same cemetery as my Grandmother. I have enjoyed this Bruce McLaren Web site. Thanks very much for making it possible.

Regards.

Geoff Walton.

The Mark Donohue Reunion at SVRA's Watkins Glen races was a hit due to work of Paul Powell and the WGI Motor Racing Research Library's Mark Steigerwald. McLaren would be a wonderful theme for a future event.

How nice to log into this site on August 30. I first met Bruce and Pat when they came over to Sydney for one of the Tasman races. It was their first trip, and Eoin Young and Wally Willmot came with them. I was sharing a house with Mike Kable, the journalist, in Sydney at that time and Eoin and Wally were a little strapped for cash, so we provided them with bed and breakfast. I followed Bruce's racing with avid interest from then on, although I must say that my hero was (Sir) Jack Brabham. He is still my hero and now a great friend, and I am hopeful that Keith Abbott can finalise all the arrangements to get Jack over in November to see you all and assist the trust. Grahame Ward
