I followed motor racing in NZ from age 5 (1954 on) so have a clear memory of the early years with Coopers and the Tasman Series meetings (all in the Sth Island)including the "launch" of the Mini Cooper in NZ with a "stunt team" comprising Bruce,Jack Brabham etc at Teretonga, which I still have box brownie photos of!Great years of m/sport in an era sadly missed.I now manage a motorsport business in Australia.Great to see a site that celebrates & records Bruce's life and acheivements. My father has sent me recordings of the tapes sent back from Europe, - terrific. Hi to all the McLaren faimily and fans, Bruce was a true halmark, and I admire him admirably. If only I was to be what he acvhieved. A true New Zealand icon. As for the website, its great, and easy to navigate through. All the best for the McLarens and the future of the McLaren racing team.8

Having just watched the "Trio at the Top" documentry on video, every New Zealander should be filled with patriotic pride at the simply awesome acheivements these talented people showed the world. I've always had a keen interest in Motorsport from an early age, cultivated by my father, and remember some of the drivers and machinery around in the 70's. It seemed a much more "ballsy" thing to drive a racecar back then as they lacked a lot of the refinements of todays cars. To be reminded that the internationally revered team of McLaren has a heritage all New Zealanders can call their own was a very essential thing to see.

I tried to access this site from The New Zealand Edge Heroes but the link through Motorsport NZ has gone. Maybe that should be updated to make it easier to find you.

Bruce was about 12 years older than me, and at the time he was starting to win, i was starting alifetime passion for motor racing. I followed his racing as close as I could, although it sometimes took a while for his results to return to NZ. I always saw him in the Tasman Series, and I was proud of the way he and Hulme and Amon beat the "overseas stars". I was very proud of the fact that Bruce was an Engineer as well as driver, and when I started my own racing (on a very low club level) I always did everything on my cars, I was mechanic, engineer, and driver, in the tradition of Bruce. My sister gave me a copy of "From the cockpit" in 1965 and got Bruce to sign it. It has always been my most treasured book, particually as both Bruce and my sister have gone. I have often read what he wrote when Timmy Mayer died, and it is a comment that I read many times when Bruce died. I will never forget Bruce, and I hope through the "Bruce McLaren Trust" his memory will live on for a long time with many people.

Bruce McLaren was a second cousin of mine - his family left Scotland to farm in New Zealand at the start of the last century - Other than that I know very little about him - although we are proud of his achievements

Hello, Just to let you know my mother from New Zealand sent the video from NZ, " Top Trio " over to me in London. I came back from the Monaco Grand Prix last week after meeting up with a friend of mine for 25 years ( since Kindy ). He is a Machanic with McLaren in Woking - Mark Wood. I made no connection with McLaren racing and Bruce McLaren, although my father spoke of Bruce as I was growing up. The show on NZ TV was amazing! It was incredible to see the input into Motor Sport from these 3 people. What an awesome show - Regards Steve Pritchard, Paraparaumu , New Zealand. ( Currently living in London )

McLaren BOLEH.... McLaren Boleh...

Thank You.

I dont remember whether it was the end of 1964 or 65 that Bruce came to the end of year prizegiving at the Christchurch Pioneer Amateur sports Club (slot car section)and presented the trophies. But I will never forget the way he fitted in with us young fellows discussing the various cars that in those days we built for the club track.I remember he was most impressed by the extra wide tyres some of the guys had made by machining model aeroplane tyres in a lathe.Formula one was not to see extra wide tyres for a couple of years after that time.It was also the time of the mighty Stanton brothers Corvette (the chain drive rear engined sports car)of which I had made a model for racing at the track...I wonder if that vehicle had any influence on the Canam project??? A special evening I will always remember. Peter Warren

Dear Sir: As you may be aware, Bruce made many admirers in Canada especially at Mosport where he and Denis had many successes. I have a photograph of Bruce taken at the 1967 Canadian Grand Prix where he debuted his McLaren/BRM. If you would like me to send you a copy of the photo, I would be happy to do so. Cheers, John R. I first heard about the web site on the television documentary about "three at the top" and was so moved by the content of the documentary that when the site was advertised at the end - I had to come and see for myself... I have long admired and reverred the skill and dedication of F1 having seen it live for myself at Pukekohe in the late 60's early 70's.

I look forward to now seeking out the various localities that contain various memorabilia of Mclaren around the country and watching with pride the continued success of the Mclaren F1 team.

Can I give a comment about McLaren (season) MP16 chassis and Mercedes V10 engine is now very poor performance and realibity, I think McLaren can make design with more flat at the bottom chasis, (the chassis under pilot cockpit, then make a wing front of rear wheel, that will be make more aerodynamic for prevent turbulence at the rear whell, and at last i thought a improvement in electronic device and Mercedes engine will be make the car untouchable.

Nice Site! I never got to meet Mr. McLaren, but I did get to meet Denny Hulme at Watkins Glen , in 1990 during the Ca-Am reunion. He signed my poster and posed for a pic! Even chatted about the Can-Am days. Very nice gent. He spoke of Bruce and his thoughts about racing cars. Bruce was my hero! Good luck with your plans. My son just built a model of #4 Bruce's story lives ! I take my son to the GLEN every sept. for the Vintage races. He even had his pic taken with Oscar Koveleski, a Mclaren racer for many years. I can say for both of us, Bruce was way ahead of his time. Good Luck. PS Did you ever notice , every pic of Bruce in vintage mags , he seems to always be smiling!!!! :) Wished I got to meet him in person. Thanks , Rich Chmielewski Wilkes Barre, PA.
