McLaren has justifiably earned a reputation for driving steadily and using his head. Like the great Fangio he has always adopted the policy of keeping up with the potential winners as much as possible, but without overtaxing his cars.

Auckland racing driver Bruce McLaren, who brilliantly won at Sebring on Saturday, has been promoted No 2 driver in the Cooper works team for next season.

As for those who remembered John Cooper’s famous victory rolls – a wonderful piece of film footage shows the ecstatic roll and then the surprise on his face when he realises it was Bruce in 1st place!

40 year record still stands

Bruce McLaren’s achievement at Sebring in 1959 is now written in history as one of the outstanding records in motor racing. December 1999 marks the 40th anniversary of this incredible record.
